CARTERTON
RUGBY AFFAIRS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr K. G. Fairbrother presided over a committee meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union last evening. There were also present: Messrs M. J. Parker, F. B. Brough, C. Gray, S. Henson, G. Udy. M. Fly, R. Howard and the secretary, Mr H. A. McPhee. 1 The treasurer reported a credit balance of £27 18s. Accounts amounting to £l9 13s Gd were passed for payment. The secretary of the Featherston Sports Committee wrote stating that the terms asked for the Featherston grounds were 10 per cent of the gate takings. Mr H. Matson, secretary of the Wai-' rarapa Rugby Referees’ Association, wrote advising that Messrs W. and E. Grantham and B. Hurley, all of Masterton, had been appointed a Referees’ Appointment Board. Much discussion ensued regarding the status of players and it was decided that present players would be those who have not played senior or junior football, the age limit to be eliminated. It was decided'that the B grade Carterton team play at 1.30 o’clock and the A team play at 2.30 p.m. on’ Saturday. ’ It was resolved that coaches of all teams be admitted to all grounds free of charge. The next meeting will be held on June 3. Hockey. The following is the Carterton B team to play Carterton A (ladies) on No. 2 ground at Carrington Park on Saturday:—P. Jensen, P. Deller, B. Berry, H. Gregor, A. Fairbrother, B Goodin, B. Merwood, D. Jensen, J. Steven, P. Cooper and A. Sullivan. Illuminated Address. When the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade team was competing at the annual Fire Brigade demonstrations last year, the members were met by Mrs Rush, of Wanganui, and invited to her home to see a framed illuminated address that was presented to her father, Mr A. Fisk, who was captain of the Carterton brigade 61 years ago. The address is a splendid work of art and was given to Captain Fisk as a mark of appreciation of his services as brigade captain by his fellow firemen. It was signed by Geo. Bowles, Lieutenant', Geo. A. Fairbrother, treasurer, G. H. Robinson and R. B. Church, branchmen, and 36 other members. Mr Fisk in the l,ate seventies managed a store to which was then attached Carterton’s Post Office. Mrs Rush, who had promised that the address should hang in Carterton’s fire station, arrived in Carterton yesterday with the gift. She was the guest of the firemen at the station last evening and given a warm welcome and thanked by Deputy Superintendent J. H. Churchouse for her very fine gesture in presenting the framed address to the Brigade. Personal. Mrs T. Lye, Island Bay, who was the guest of Mrs R. S. Barrett, has returned home from Carterton. Mrs W. Shanks. Dannevirke, who has been the guest of Mrs S. Green, Levin, has returned home. Miss J. Finlayson, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs R. S. Barrett, Carterton. , Football Teams. The Carterton team to play Featherston at Carrington Park, Carterton, at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday next, will be chosen from the following: —Lenihan, Hemi, Groube, Spooner, Rayner, Humphries, Staples, Berry, Quinn, D. McPhee, T. Corlet, Aplin, Parker (2), W. Smith, Waterson, Catt (2), Goodin (2). Workman, Trapp and Phillips. The team is to assemble at Memorial Square at 1.30 p.m. The Carterton B team to plaj' Masterton on Carrington Park on Saturday at 1.30 p.m., will be chosen from: McKenzie (2), Catt, B. Goodin, L. Royska, Desmond (2), Burt Walsh, J. Parker. McPhee (3). Chapman, Ireland, Hurndell, B. Butler, D. Martin, G. Stubbs. W. Geange, D. McPhee, T. Corlet. REGENT THEATRE A DOUBLE ATI'BACTION. There will be a double attraction tonight headed by a thrilling romance of the headline news service “A Dispatch From Reuter’s” with Ed. G. Robinson and Edna Best. The associate picture will be “Flying Blind,” with Richard Arlen and Jean Parker in the leading rolss.
