Hopes held by motorists throughout New Zealand that, in view of the uncertainty of future petrol supplies, they may escape some of the annual licensing, registration, and third-party insurance charges during the coming year, are likely to be realised. Though no official announcement has been made, it is possible that the cost of relicensing and third-party insurance may be reduced by about £1 for the 1942-43 year, while it has already been stated that no new number plates will be issued. The present motor registration year extends to June 30, ipstead of the end of May, and last year licence fees and the cost of driving licences were proportionately increased to cover the 13 months. For the 12 months from July 1 this year onward, however, it is confidently expected that there will be a substantial reduction.
