MR & MRS GAZELLE
NOVEL NEW ZEALAND ARMY
MASCOTS.
(N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.)
„ CAIRO, March 5.
Something novel in the way of mascots has been chosen by a New Zealand survey battery, which, while stationed in Palestine, decided to adopt a gazelle. The animal was brought from a dealer after much haggling and soon made itself at home. One should say “herself,” for the battery’s gazelle is a very dainty female. Australians who happened to drop in were introduced to the battery’s mascot. On learning that it was a “she,” they decided to provide her with a husband. They kept their promise, and now Mr and Mrs Gazelle have set up house and appear to be a very happy married couple. Members of the battery have now subscribed towards buying a perambulator. Everything, they say, is to be proper and respectable.
