“THEY MET IN ARGENTINA.”
A novel musical romance, “They Met in Argentina,” which will be shown tonight, provides all the elements of bright entertainment, and is enacted against brilliant settings representing Buenos Aires and the Gaucho country. This is a particularly swift-moving story, and one that is sure to appeal to all types of audiences. Besides a triangular romance that in itself is strong enough for any plot, worked out by the talented team of Maureen O’Hara, James Ellison, and Buddy Ebsen, the film sports 10 new musical numbers by the Rodgers-Hart song-writing combination. The story concerns the efforts of a young American to induce a haughty old Argentine •cattle king to sell his favourite racehorse, involving a journey to his estate in the Pampas to achieve this object. The arrival of an Argentine suitor on the scene, when the daughter of the house has become firtnly convinced that the American is following her, adds action to the story, and the principals give polished performances.
