HOSPITAL BOARD

BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held today, the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presiding. The Dominion Controller of the Hospital Emergency Precautions Service advised that there was no general exemption for members of the service regarding enrolment in the Home Guard and that appeals should be lodged by those members of the staff whose services should be retained in the hospital service. Plans for the layout for the new water mains to be laid in the hospital grounds were accepted. The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, reported on the position regarding the laundryman at Masterton Hospital. At the last meeting Mr Askew’s resignation was referred to the chairman and secretary for discussion with Mr Askew, who wished to take up another position in Wellington. Mr Askew’s main consideration in applying for another position was on account of his health. The board had offered to pay him a salary of £8 per week and to provide a washman to do the heavy work. Although the Manpower Committee had given Mr Askew permission to leave the Hospital staff, an appeal against this decision had been allowed by the Industrial Manpower Committee and Mr Askew was remaining in the board’s employ. • The action of the chairman and se-> cretary was confirmed.
