WAR IN MEDITERRANEAN
RETIRING ADMIRAL’S PRIDE
IN FLEET.
(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) ALEXANDRIA, May 19.
Admiral Sir A. Cunningham has left for London en route to the United States. Admiral Cunningham, in a farewell message to the Fleet, said: “It has been my greatest pride that, throughout the war, the Mediterranean Fleet has consistently shown itself master of the enemy in all branches of naval warfare. This has enabled us for two years to impose our will on the enemy to a very high degree, despite his superiority in every class of ship and almost overwhelming air strength. Another message reports Admiral Cunningham as stating that he looked forward to the day, which might not be very far distant, when enemy naval forces would be swept from the Mediterranean.
