MADE BY GENERAL SMUTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CAIRO, May 18. The South African Prime Minister, General Smuts, arrived in Cairo 10 days ago by air, according to an agency message. The Premier was accompanied by his wife and General van Rinevald, Chief of the South African General Staff. Subsequently he conferred with Mr Casey and General Auchinleck. After visiting South African troops at the various base camps, General Smuts, accompanied by Mr S. F. Waterson, the Union High Commissioner in London, flew to the Libyan front. There he spent three days with forward troops of the Union and visited the various battle grounds. He discussed the military situation with General Ritchie and other senior commanders.
