BIRTHDAY PARTY A HAPPY FUNCTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) Recently Mr and Mrs Hooper entertained 200 guests in the Newman Hall, the occasion being to celebrate the coming-of-age of their third daughter, Beulah. The hall was prettily decorated with red, white and blue streamers. Visitors were present from Eketahuna, Levin, Pahia.tua and surrounding districts. Miss Hooper wore for her coming-of-age a charming frock of cyclamen water-waved shot taffeta, with tucked pockets and sleeves and a cape of fur. , Mrs R. Giles supplied the dance music. Extras were played by Miss Barbara Perry (piano), Mr G. Wade (accordion), and Mr Alan Larsen (piano accordion). Mr R. Kiddie acted as M.C. Mr W. Goss contributed a solo. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Mr L. Cooper and Mrs L. Sigvertsen. During the evening Mr W. Dowsett proposed the toast of the guest of honour and congratulated Miss Hooper on attaining her majority. Mr R. Mabey endorsed Mr Dowsett’s remarks and coupled with the guest’s name her fiancee, Mr Pat Monaghan, who is serving with the New Zealand Forces in Syria. Mr Hooper thanked the guests for their attendance and presented his daughter with a tortoise shell key. Miss Hooper thanked everyone for their lovely gifts and her parents for giving her the party. A beautifully iced birthday cake was cut and handed round. Soldiers’ Comforts Committee. The Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee held a flag 500 in the Anglican Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance. The games were conducted by Mr L. C. Christie, and Miss M. Anderson, president, presented the prizes to the following winners:—Mrs McAlister’ and Messrs C. Parsons, D. Scott and H. R. Nordell. Supper served by the ladies’ committee brought a successful evening to a close. Personal. Mrs L. C. Christie is on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Rout is a patient in the Tararua Hospital, Pahiatua. Mrs Petersen, Greytown, is the guest of her mother, Mrs Edmonds. Mrs Butcher, Palmerston North, is the guest of her son, Hastwell Street. Miss Salter, Hamilton, is visiting her father, Mr Salter, High Street, Parkville.
