RUGBY SEASON

OPENED ON SATURDAY WAIRARAPA MATCHES. EVEN GAME AT RUGBY PARK. The Rugby season opened in the Wairarapa on“ Saturday afternoon with A and B grade matches. Good games were witnessed and there was a failattendance of the public. At Rugby Park, in an A grade match, an even game resulted between Masterton and Carterton, the former winning by 12 points to 11. The scoreis were: For- Masterton, Jones two tries and a penalty goal, Mangham a try; for Carterton, Goodin, McPhee and Stills': a try each, one being converted by Goodin. Mr E. Grantham was the referee. The other A grade match was played at Featherston, where College beat Featherston by 28 points to 6. Although there was a big margin in points, the Featherston boys played well. Mr Percy was the referee. B Grade. A B grade match between Carterton and Dalefield, played on Carrington Park, was won by Carterton by 9 points to 6. Mr L. Berry controlled the game.
