GROWING POPULARITY
OF SOLDIERS’ TEAS. LARGE ATTENDANCE AT Y.M.C.A. LAST EVENING. The free tea tendered to the men of the Forces yesterday at the Y.M.C.A. rooms by the ladies of the Methodist Guild proved a great success. Busy hands had everything well prepared and the fare set out on the four large, prettily decorated tables made a very appetising and homely sight. The attendance was a large one, necesitating a second sitting at the tea. In welcoming the men on behalf ot the Y.M.C.A., Mr R. G. Gilbert expressed pleasure at seeing how they were making use of the facilities piovided at the rooms. He then introduced the hostesses of the evening, whose representative, Dr Prior, spoke of the pleasure the ladies had in being . able to provide the tea and in entertaining the men. Mrs Deadly and Miss Kings favoured the company with recitations and songs respectively, Mesdames Speight and D. Barnes acting as pianists. The devotional period was observed and a happy time in community singing was spent afterwards in the Association s Lounge. Cheers were given in response to thanks expressed by Sergt. Carr for the Army and Aircraftman Forrest on behalf of the Air force.
