An intimation that the question of observance of the late shopping night, or the earlier closing of shops, is bound up with an important policy matter has been given by the Associate Minister of National Service, Mr Wilson, in a letter to the Mayor of Wellington, Mr Hislop, explaining the delay in replying to representations Avhich had been made on the subject. “While I am unable at present to give any definite indication of possible future changes of policy in regard to the question of the early closing of shops,” states the Minister, “I am able to say that the whole question of prevention of concentration of the public, particularly during the hours of darkness, is at present being thoroughly examined from all aspects, including lhe accumulation of people after evening entertainments’ or otherwise. The representations contained in the letter from your town clerk arc being taken into consideration in this respect.”
