ALFREDTON
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) • At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute there was a good attendance. Ths competitions were judged by Mrs Treadray and Miss Smith and resulted as follows:— Knitting pullovers, Mrs Low 1, Mrs Algie 2 and 3. Scarfs: Mrs L. Youall 1, Miss J. Algie 2, Mrs E. McLean 3. Balaclavas, Mrs Low 1. Mittens, Mrs Dickens 1. Ginger nuts, Mrs L. Youall 1, Mrs Dickens 2. Best bloom, Mrs Weston 1 and 2, Mrs V. Payne 3. During the afternoon Miss Shultz, of Eketahuna, gave two humerous recitations which were much enjoyed. Mr R. Kebb£ll urged the collecting of waste paper. Afternoon tea was served. The Institute has received letters from Cpl. A. Kilgour, Pte. B. Short, Gnr. G. L. Martin and the late Sergeant Pilot Hylton George acknowledging parcels sent by the Institute, which were received in good condition. Personal Items. Miss Cave and Miss Barbara Napier left on Saturday for Christchurch. Mrs McGovern is the guest of Mrs G. Napier. Pte. W. Rolls is spending a few days with Mr H. Rolls. Miss Smith, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs R. Kebbell, “Winiata.”
