RATES OF PAY
IN AMERICAN ARMED FORCES. PROPOSED INCREASES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 13. The House of Representatives passed and sent to the Senate a measure to increase the pay of members of the Armed Forces. On a roll call, by 331 votes to 28, the House refused to retreat from its tentative position yesterday, but members of the Military ' Committee predicted that the original 42 dollars voted by the Senate would be restored after a conference of both Houses to adjust differences. The following table shows the status of the proposed monthly rises hi pay for the American forces. All the figures are given in dollars, and they represent: Firstly, the existing rate; secondly, the rate voted by the Senate; and, thirdly, the rate proposed by the House of Representatives: — Dollars per month. Nurses with less than three years’ service would be raised from 70 to 90 dollars a month, while those with nine years’ service or more would be raised to 130 dollars a month.
