WAR LOSSES

OF EMPIRE ARMED FORCES FROM OUTBREAK OF WAR TO OCTOBER LAST. MR ATTLEE GIVES FIGURES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, May 12. The armed forces of the British Empire lost 48,973 killed, comprising 6,296 officers and 42,677 of other ranks, from the outbreak of war to October 2, 1941. Mr Attlee gave these figures in the House of Commons today as part of a complete list, which is as follows: — Killed 48,973 Wounded ■■■■ 46,363 Prisoners of war 58,458 Missing 29,856 The losses of officers are: —Killed, 6,296; wounded, 4,064; prisoners of war, 3,374; missing, 953. The losses of other ranks are:—Killed, 42,677; wounded, 42,299; prisoners of war, 55,084; missing, 28,803. The total casualties in all ranks are 183,550.
