The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, paid an official visit to Taumarunui yesterday with Lady Newall. Official advice has been received by Mr and Mrs P. W. Dixon, Renall Street, that their son, N. W. Dixon, has been promoted to the rank of Flight Officei. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mrs Emma Coster, relict of Mr John Coster, formerly of Eketahuna, at the age of 73 years. The funeral will take place at Eketahuna. Cabled advice has been received that Flight Sergeant Ivor McLachlan, son of Mr J. McLachlan, Cornwall Street, Masterton, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. Flight Sergeant McLachlan was educated at the Masterton Central School, and later attended Wairarapa College and the Teachers’ Training College in Wellington. He left the Training College eighteen months ago to enter the R.N.Z.A.F. and went overseas in May, 1941. The annual report of the Red Star Football Club makes reference to the splendid service rendered over a number of years in connection with third grade teams by Mr P. Prescott, and the club has placed on record its appreciation of his assistance. The annual report also expresses the thanks of the club to Mr D. Stewart for coaching the seniors and for the interest he has always taken in club affairs. Mr Harry Golder, who is now in camp, was also thanked for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his secretarial duties. Mr Richard Charles Powell, who died last week at Bunnythorpe, in his 65th year, was born at Hororata (Waikato) in 1877 and spent his early life in that district.' After 11 years’ farming at Kaimata (Taranaki) he returned to the Manawatu district and had been farming in Bunnythorpe for the past 23 years. He bred pedigree Jersey cattle. He took a keen interest in sport and was prominent in various organisations and committees in Bunnythorpe. He is survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters—Messrs H. E. Powell (Tolaga Bay), F. Powell (Palmerston North), J. Powell (Cheltenham), W. Powell (Trentham), Mrs C. R. Pedersen (Masterton) and Miss L. Powell (Bunnythorpe).
