CHURCH OF IRELAND

HOLDINGS OF OVERSEA STOCKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) DUBLIN, May 7. Senator Sir John Keane, presenting the Church of Ireland’s budget to the General Synod, said that if the worst happened, as a result of Japan’s entry into the war and some Empire governments were unable to pay interest on stocks held by the church, it was possible that the British Government might accept responsibility for the repayment of interest until normal conditions were restored. Sir J. Keane revealed that the church’s holdings were: —Australian, £617,000; New Zealand, £118,000; India, £130,000; China, £60,000.
