masterton sub-centre MANY ACTIVITIES. ASSISTANCE FOR SEAMEN. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton. Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society, held in the Red Cross Room, Mrs Tolhurst presiding, a letter was received from the centie notifying that the levy for 1942 would be £64 Is. It was decided that the sum of £4O which had already been paid to the centre would be given as a donation and the full amount of the levy (£64 Is) would be paid to the centre. As the membership of the sub-centre permitted of four delegates to the centre, Mr Lee and Miss Ross were appointed to act with Mr Ninnes and, Mrs Harrison, who had already been appointed delegates. The sewing group was continuing the work' of building up a reserve supply of clothing for emergency purposes. Thanks were expressed for the many parcels handed in. The group would be most grateful for further supplies of clothing which could be re-made. The hospital auxiliary had made .many visits to the hospitals and expressed its gratitude for the monthly grant of £2 for buying magazines for the soldiers’ wards. The handcrafts committee as well as undertaking work amongst the soldiers in hospital was now assisting patients in the T.B. wards with handwork. Felt work, carving, weaving and netting were being done by the patients. This group would be glad to receive any old felt hats, particularly those m bright colours as these were used for all kinds of felt work. The hospital group had completed 500 dressings for emergency stations and also bandages and dressings for the St. John Ambulance Division for demonstration purposes at the colleges. All bandages had been made from salvaged material supplied by Messrs Bodie Bros, and gratitude was expressed for\ this material and also to Mrs Dunwoodie for washing it. Mrs Munn offered to demonstrate knitting from the fleece to members of the knitting group and this offer was gratefully accepted and a suitable date would be arranged. Letters were received from the Seamen’s Mission in England acknowledging the receipt of six cases of clothing for distressed British civilians. It was decided that the secretary write to the Rev. Williams of the Seamen’s Mission in Wellington who had arranged to forward these cases and thank him for his assistance and that a donation of £5 be sent to the Seamen’s Mission, Wellington, for distressed seamen. > As an appreciation of the work being done by the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division a donation of £2O was madri to its funds.
