BEATEN OFF AT MIDWAY ISLAND INSPECTION BY ADMIRAL NIMITZ. DECORATIONS AWARDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) PEARL HARBOUR, May 6. Admiral Nimitz, commander of the Pacific Fleets, has returned from an inspection of Midway Island. He revealed that defenders of the island have successfully repulsed five Japanese attacks since December 7. The last one was on March 10, when marines shot down a Japanese patrol seaplane. Admiral Nimitz awarded honours to marine aviators and naval personnel on Midway for their heroic defensive efforts.
