AMERICAN & FILIPINO TROOPS FIGHTING IN LUZON. RECOGNITION OF MAGNIFICENT DEFENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 6. The War Department has issued a special communique announcing that general orders have been published citing various elements of the American and Philippine troops fighting in Luzon for their skill and courage in a magnificent defence of thfe island against overwhelming odds, The citations are issued in the name of President Roosevelt, and are based on operations reports received from the Philippines, upon General MacArthur’s recommendations. A United States Army spokesman said that fighting was continuing in Cebu, Dgvao, Hilo, North Luzon and Mindanao.
