STRUCK BY ALLIED PLANES IN NEW GUINEA JAPANESE SUFFERING HEAVY LOSSES. BUT ABLE TO REINFORCE RAPIDLY. LONDON, May 6. A correspondent of the- Australian Broadcasting Commission says the successful attacks by Allied planes in the New Guinea area are now showing signs of cutting down Japanese striking power. The Japanese, however, may resume the offensive very soon. 'They are in a position to make .up their losses in a matter of days. MORE DAMAGE DONE AT LAE AND RABAUL. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May Q. A communique from General MacArthur’s headquarters says: Allied bombers raided the aerodrome at Lae and hits were scored on grounded enemy bombers. Our air force, in an attack on Rabaul. obtained hits on the target area.
