SOLDIERS’ PARTY
AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING
("Times-Age” Special.) One of the most enjoyable parties yet hold in the Tiraumea Hall took place on Wednesday night, when the residents of Tiraumea, Waihoki and Haunui entertained Private Leonard Curtis and welcomed home one of the first soldiers to leave the district, Private Ray McDonald, of Waihoki. Visitors were present from Pongaroa, Rakaunui, Alfredton and Eketahuna, including Mr and Mrs L. Houlbrooke, Eketahuna, grandparents of Private Curtis.
Mr G. Barker made a capable M.C. for the dancing. The music was supplied by Mesdames G. Houlbrooke, Bowering, Liverton and Mr Barker. After supper, which was. handed round by the Patriotic Committee, Mr Scott Raleigh (president of the Patriotic Committee) presented Private Curtis with a wristlet watch and Private Ray McDonald with a parcel of cigarettes. Private Curtis suitably replied, after which musical honours were accorded the two guests. Mr Raleigh then requested all visiting soldiers to come forward and Mrs Harman presented each with 50 cigarettes. Private E. Eagle returned thanks for the gifts. Personal Items. Trooper F. Herbert is spending leave in the district. Mrs McManaway has returned home after having spent a short holiday with her mother, Mrs Foreman, Masterton. Miss O’Donnell, Pahiatua, is the guest of Mrs Savage: Miss G. Yoeman has returned to Rakaunui after having been the guest of Mrs Curtis. Miss Rita Jewitt, Haunui, is staying with her sister, Mrs Sharp, Wellington.
