VITAL STATISTICS FIGURES FOR APRIL. (“Times-Age” Special.). The vital statistics for April are:— Births 7, marriages 2, deaths nil. Rainfall Record. In April, 2.85 inches of rain fell, in Featherston, the heaviest fall being .86 in. on April G. Rain was registered on fourteen days. National Savings. The National Savings pennant was flown on Wednesday, the quota having been reached that day. Soldiers Entertained. There was a large gathering of settlers from Pukio, Pahautea, Pirinoa and Kahutara at the Kahutara Hall on Thursday, when Lieut. J. S. Bidwili and Lance-Corporal E. Lord were entertained. The time was spent in cards and dancing. The card winners were Mrs Riki and Mr Feast. The music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs Matenga and Mr D. Sutherland. After supper, Mr Renall, on behali of the settlers, presented each guest with a wristlet watch. Mr. Holmes, Pirinoa, presented Mr Ford, who had been in his employ during the past 17 years, with a well-filled wallet. The Women’s Institute and the Women’s Division presented the soldiers with parcels of comforts. COSY THEATRE A WONDER PLAY. The wonder picture, “The Thief of Bagdad,” in beautiful technicolour, will be shown tonight, the chief roles being in the hands of Sabu, Conrad Veidt, and June Duprez.
