Building Permits.
No building permits were issued by the Masterton Borough Council last month. Several applications were received, but these had to be forwarded to the Building Controller, Wellington, for his authority before a permit might be issued. In April, 1941, two permits were issued for a value of £BB. The Masterton County Council issued three permits in April this year. None were issued in April last year.
Designs on Stones. Mr Harvey Holyoake, of Riwaka, who is well known for his hobby of collecting from riverbeds stones bearing strange natural designs, reports that his latest discovery in the Riwaka River was a stone with a prominent and perfectly shaped V on its face. Another recent riverbed find was a stone having thereon a good representation of Queen Mary.
