Orders for phosphatic fertilisers by merchants, dairy factories, and other organisations on behalf of primary producers must be lodged with manufacturers before June 1, according to an announcement yesterday by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Barclay. This covered all orders relating to the present rationing year, which terminated on June 30. In those cases where the fertiliser supplies ordered are intended for cropping purposes, orders will be accepted only to cover crops which will be sown by June 30 of this year. Mr Barclay said it was not intended to prohibit sales of blood and bone fertilisers in small quantities to home gardeners.

Debate on Manpower. . An undertaking to provide an opportunity for a discussion on the conscription of men and- women for war and industry was given by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives yesterday when replying to an urgent question asked by Mr Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn). Mr Lee had asked for a day to be set aside for such a debate, and he suggested that it should be initiated by a statement from the Minister of Manpower, Mr Semple. Mr Fraser said he did not know that he could set aside a full day, but nevertheless ample opportunity would be given for a debate. Mr Lee: “Can we get some sort of statement?” Mr Fraser: “A statement will be forthcoming.”
