AXIS DESERTERS
NUMBER JOIN YUGOSLAV GUERILLAS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 26. According to messages from Yugoslavia, more than 500 German and 1000 Bulgarian deserters are now fighting with General Mikhailovitch’s guerillas. Reuter reports that nine Italian and six Bulgarian divisions, and one German division, are now being used in an attempt to destroy the Yugoslav patriots. They are finding difficulty in making contact with the patriots, though the patriot forces have grown from companies to regiments, and from regiments to divisions. A new guerilla force which is gaining strength in Bosnia under the command of General Dankeitch, a close friend of General Mikhailovitch, recently undertook a successful action on the outskirts of Sarajevo. Guerillas are also fighting in Albania, but it is difficult for them to maintain contact with the Chetnik headquarters. The Italians seldom offer resistance against the Chetniks, who strip them of arms and ammunition, and liberate them.
