ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
NURSING DIVISION ACTIVITIES. ANNUAL REPORT FOR PAST YEAR. The annual report of the Nursing Division of St. John Ambulance for the year 1941 states that the division ■roll at the end of the year stood at 66, an increase of 32 for the year.
The year 1941 was a very busy one for the Nursing Division, which was capably supervised by Miss Whitehouse, assisted by the senior members. Seven courses of lectures were held as follows: —First Aid (2), Home Nursing (2), Hygiene (2), and one course of A.R.P. The lectures were given by Miss Van Staveren, of Wellington'. Two hundred and eighty-nine ladies attended these lectures, and of these 90 per cent sat for the examinations. The annual re-examinations of the Division were held on October 13 and November 25. Divisional members who are qualified Voluntary and Kitchen Aids number 59. The Cadet branch of the Nursing Division shows a steady increase with a roll of 23, and during the year a number of proficiency awards were gained by several Cadets. At the examinations held 100 per cent passes was gained. Mrs F. McKenzie, L.A.0., who represents the the Nursing Division on the Red Cross, attended 40 meetings of the Hospital Sewing Group, also the monthly and executive meetings held during the year. Mrs E. Pither (hon. president) is a very busy worker for the Y.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary. Mrs Tagg, who represents the Nursing Division on the Patriotic Committee, - has assisted with the various activities in connection with this organisation. Mrs H. W. Thompson, Divisional secretary, gave practical instruction in First Aid and Home Nursing to a group of ladies at Tinui and Te Ore Ore. Members were on duty at various sports meetings held during the year in connection with the patriotic carnival, the Masterton A. and P. show in February, girls’ interhouse sports in November, Anzac Day, school sports, and various sports meetings held during the winter months. I The number of cases treated by members privately and on public duty was 97.
On St. John’s Day a church parade was held in St. Matthew’s Church. The service was conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon Rich. A large parade of members attended the annual inspection, which was held on November 29, and was conducted by officers of the Order from Wellington. Thanks are extended to all who assisted the Division in so many ways during the year.
