RETURN FROM SWEDEN
NEW ZEALAND VOLUNTEER. THINKS GERMAN COLLAPSE UNLIKELY. (Special P.A. Correspondent). (Received This Day, '10.40 a.m.) LONDON, April 23. After an absence of two years, Mr J. Sonar Dunlop, of Dunedin, flew to London last week from Stockholm. He volunteered to fight with the Finns in 1940 and attempted to join up with the British at Narvik, but was unsuccessful. Later he studied in Stockholm for eighteen months. He said conditions in Sweden were fairly good, though rations were less ample than in Britain. The Swedes, formerly pro-German, were now proAllied, but thoroughly disliked the Russians. They were well prepared against a German invasion and now had a strong army.
' “Judging from the reports of Swedes returning from Germany, the morale of the Germans is good,” said Mr Dunlop. “I think there is too much optimism in Britain about a sudden collapse of morale in Germany.”
