MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD REPORT ON FINANCIAL POSITION. FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held today, the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presiding. It was agreed that the board should pay a rental of £2 10s per week for the Nurses’ Home, Featherston, as from April 13 and for the duration of the war, subject to three months’ notice. The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, reported that arrangements had been made to train field ambulance medical orderlies at Anzac Hospital, Featherston. The board agreed to detail a sister for duty at the Greytown casualty clearing station in the event of an emergency. The tender of Mr T. V. Caverhill for the lease of a paddock of three acres in Colombo Road at an annual rental of £5 2s 6d was accepted. There was some discussion regarding the position of officer-in-charge of the laundry at the Masterton Hospital. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. The Managing-Secretary reported that the year had ended with a debit balance on maintenance account of £3212. In September he was authorised to purchase reserve stocks up to £3OOO and that amount was not included in the estimates. Stocks had been purchased and were larger today than at any previous time. In addition, over £l6OO had been expended on the maintenance of the Anzac Hospital and no provision had been made for that expenditure in the estimates. The general account bank pass book showed an overdraft of £552 9s 9d and cheques outstanding totalled £1134. In connection with capital receipts and payments there was a credit balance of £ll6. A request was received from the Director General of Health, Dr. Watt, acting on the recommendations of the Vegetable Committee that the hospital should be self-supporting in vegetable supplies, particularly in potatoes and the main root crops. The ManagingSecretary. Mr Lee, stated that the board already had an extensive garden and last year 86,0001b5. of vegetables were grown and consumed. It was decided to reply drawing attention to the board’s position in respect to vegetable growing.
