TOWN AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. REVENUE FROM PARK GAMES. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presiding over a full attendance of councillors. A circular letter from the Pukekohe Borough Council in respect to a total war effort by New Zealand was received.
The council agreed to remit the rent for the hire of the Municipal Hall by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association on Saturday night last for a dance in aid of the patriotic Fund. It was stated that if the rent were remitted a sum of £4B 14s 5d could be donated to the fund. The resignation of Mr J. Catherall, acting sexton, as from the end of April was accepted with regret. Mr Catherall, whose resignation was due to health reasons, was thanked for his past services. The following donors were thanked for gifts to the Park; Mrs R. Page, Essex Street, collection of irises; Mr Hogg, Kirton Street, nine pairs of fancy pigeons; Dr. O. Earp-Thomas, Wellington, hybrid teatree plants. The revenue from games, etc. at Master ton Park for the past 12 months totalled £l6B 19s 9d, an increase of £24 16s lOd compared with the 1941 season. The following >var time appointments were made: Mr F. O’Connor as acting sexton; Mr G. L. Scrivener, Park assistant. > It was decided to replace eleven Idesia trees in the High Street avenue. The council decided to apply the five per cent increase in wages, with the stipulated limitation, to all members of the borough staff.
