LIMITING ACTIVITY IN LIBYA ENEMY COLUMN DRIVEN BACK. CONTINUED LULL OVER MALTA. LONDON. April 17. In the Western Desert sandstorms are hampering operations. Fighting was confined yesterday to a brush between guns and enemy armoured cars and other vehicles. ■ The action took place 15 miles south-west of Gazala and after being engaged the enemy broke away and withdrew. The lull over Malta continues. Very few German aircraft appeared, near the island today. None crossed the coast and there were no alerts last night.
