IMPERIAL AND ALLIED TROOPS INCLUDING NEW ZEALANDERS. INSPECTED BY GENERAL AUCHINLECK. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) RUGBY, April 16. General Auchinleck, according to a Cairo Press message, recently completed a far-reaching inspection tour of the Ninth and Tenth Armies. Travelling by air, he visited Iran, Iraq, Syria, Trans-Jordan and Palestine, and inspected units of the powerful British, Imperial and Allied forces, which stand guard in these great areas. He conferred with Service commanders and diplomatic and political personages. In base areas and at transit reinforcement camps along the lines of communication, and in forward fortified positions, he inspected many varied units, including British, Indian. Australian, New Zealand and Allied troops, and the Arab Legion of the Trans-Jordan Frontier Force.
General Auchinleck, during his visit to the Ninth and Tenth Armies, visited the oil refineries at Abadan and met General Freyberg, before conferring with General Catroux (Free French commander/ at Damascus.
