Mr R. H. Beaumont has been reelected chairman of the Wellington Junior Chamber of Commerce. It is officially announced, a Canberra cablegram reports, that Mr Harold Gatty has been appointed an honourary group captain in the Australian Air Force. Dr F. J. Gwynne has been appointed to the Auckland University College Council as a representative of the members of the General Assembly resident in the Auckland provincial district. The Rt Hon J. G. Coates, a member of the Wai- Cabinet, paid a brief visit to Taranaki this week. The purpose of his visit was to meet officers of the Home Guard, learn of any difficulties there might be, and see how they could be overcome. The funeral of the late Mrs L. Coup took place in Masterton this morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St Patrick's Church by the Rev Dr Gilholly and the service at the graveside; was conducted by the Rev Father Moore. The pallbearers were Messrs J. McDonald, L. Robinson, W. Brady, J. Connors, G. Foreman and G. Maister.
News has been received that Lieutenant Geoffrey Daniell Inns, R.N.V.R., is missing. Lieutenant Inns was in charge of a boat at the evacuation from Singapore and arrived safely in Batavia, since when he has been reported missing. Lieutenant Inns was a boarder in the first year that the Wairarapa College was opened. Before going overseas he was vice-commodore of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club.
