BOWLING
SEASON TO CLOSE ON SATURDAY. The official closing of the Carterton bowling green will take place on Saturday afternoon next. Members are reminded that it will be a general “tea day.”
A very interesting game was played on the Carterton green last evening for the Pragnell Cup when W. Higgison met the holder, W. C. M. Sorensen. From the third end to the 11th the holder gained a lead of eight points the score being 17/9. Higgison then made up the leeway and on the 19th end the score board read 18 all. Sorensen led at the 20th end 20/18 and with one end to go Higgison scored two points to make the score 20 all, Sorensen thus retaining the trophy. In the Carterton Club progressive pairs championship J. Billington, and A. Thompson (s) beat E. T. Beaven and C. H. Barber (s) 19/7, and E. A. Pankhurst and A. C. Tucker (s) beat J. Billington and G. Riggs (s) 24/9.
R.S.A. Committee. Mr A. T. Murray presided over a meeting of the committee of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A. when arrangements were completed for the Anzac Day parade at which Sergt.Major Laird will act as marshal. Personal Items. The friends of Mr W. Hadley will regret to learn that he is ill. Mr E. Laurensen, of Christchurch, is a visitor to Carterton. Hockey. The annual meeting of the Carterton Ladies’ Hockey Club will be held at 30 Wyndham Street, Carterton, on Saturday afternoon next at 2.30 o’clock. Gunner Entertained. There was a large attendance at the Parkvale Hail last evening, when the residents of the district entertained Gunner Percy Swinn. Dancing was enjoyed until after midnight to splendid music provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra. Much appreciated extras were played by Misses Mary Herrick and Lola Hopkins. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Herrick and Mr Udy, and a spot waltz by Miss Phyllis Waterson and partner. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs V. J. Ashton and C. Jensen Junr. Mr C. Jensen, Senr., on behalf of the residents of the district, asked the guest of the evening to accept a wristlet watch and wished him good luck and a safe return. Mrs D. N. Adams, on behalf of the Parkvale Women’s Institute, handed Gunner Swinn a parcel of knitted comforts. On behalf of the -Young Farmers’ Club, Mr Rose presented Gunner Swinn with a well-filled hold-all. Gunner Swinn suitably returned thanks. Supper was provided. REGENT THEATRE RIOT OF FUN. A riot of fun will be presented tonight in the comedy, “Hullabaloo,” in which Frank Morgan and Virginia Grey are featured. The brilliant drama, “The Lone Wolf Keeps a Date” will also be shown.
