HITLER’S FATAL SENTENCE
WHY FRENCH ARE OPTIMISTIC. Those in contact with the French in London are struck by their optimism, rot only in what they say but in what they write. One French journalist has written: “The course of events is quickening. We are approaching the last phase of the European war.” Asked about this optimism, a Frenchman replied that the English may overlook the fact that Hitler, who for the German people has always been right, on November 8 spoke one sentence which is quite possibly proving fatal. Hitler then said: “I have never used the word blitzkrieg, for this word is completely idiotic; but if it could be applied to any campaign it is to this one. Never before has a gigantic empire been smashed in a shorter period than has Soviet Russia this time.” And today this “smashed” empire is throwing back Germany s Irotops. , Jt . , “Add to that fatal sentence the fact that the United States has entered the war and you will understand why we French believe Germany has received a blow that has brought her to her 1 knees.”
