“La France Libre,” a monthly French magazine published in London and now. in its second year, contains in the issue of January 15 a series of photographs smuggled out of France. The photographs, hitherto unpublished, show a village in France, with many French soldiers returned from captivity among the inhabitants. There are children too, some of them obliged to do heavy work that their absent fathers, prisoners of the Germans, should be doing. There are care and privation marked on every face, sometimes despair. Bitterness shows on the face of the returned prisoners, but there is also determination. Women reduced to despair but carrying bravely on are also shown.
