MEDICAL BENEFITS
REFUND OF FEES WELLINGTON DISTRICT FIGURES. OVER 15,000 WARRANTS. <!',•/ Ti’l<-nrni>h-~Pn:iw Awioclatlon.) WELLINGTON, This Day. During the five /Months from ■> November I when the medical benefits scheme came into operation—to March 31, payment warrants issued by the Department of Health in respect of claims accepted for medical practitioner attention totalled 15,023 in the Wellington Health District. This mainly involves refunds of fees to the extent of 7s 6d for single visits and does not take into account specialist fees paid for by private arrangement. Large numbers of the forms of application for refunds have had to be sent back to those submitting them, because of irregularities in filling in, or not filling them in at all. This, apparently, is because people have failed to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the medical benefits legislation. Though a special staff deals with the applications for refunds, it has experienced difficulty in keeping up with the work, despite working a considerable amount of overtime. The Wellington Central Health District includes the Wairarapa area, its territory extending as far as Eketahuna in one direction and nearly to Otaki in the other.
