ACTION DEFENDED
DISMISSAL OF SIR WARREN FISHER SIR HERBERT MORRISON’S STAND. OBLIGATIONS OF PUBLIC SERVANTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 13. In a statement in the House of Commons on the dismissal of Sir Wairen Fisher Mr Herbert Morrison (Home Secretary) said Sir W. Fisher shared with other public servants the obligation to refrain from attacking the Minister to whom he was responsible. As Sir W. Fisher refused to accept this position, his continuance in office was impossible. “In view of his refusal to modify his attitude,” said Mr Morrison, “I felt that he had destroyed the confidence between us which was essential.”
The Minister of Home Security, Mr Morrison, a London cablegram reported on April 1, terminated the appointment of Sir Warren Fisher as Special Commissioner for the London Region, following Sir Warren’s refusal to resign. Sir Warren Fisher, in a letter which was published in the “Manchester Guardian,” had criticised an admonishment by Mr Morrison to north-west regional officers for the use of transport and petrol for footballers who journeyed to a match in a fire vehicle. The letter concluded: “If a simple mistake in judgment is to be handled with such Prussianism by a Minister of the Crown, what should be the fate of the Ministers for the countless most serious mistakes by them?”
