TOKIO MYSTERY
THE PHILIPPINES COMMAND DOUBLE APPOINTMENT OF HOMMA. AND REPORTED SUICIDE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.), NEW YORK, April 13. The T'okio official radio c?t Imperial Headquarters announced today that Lieutenant-General Homma had been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Expeditionary Forces in the Philippines. It has been noted that Homma’s suicide has been persistently reported to General MacArthur from various sources regarded as reliable. In any event, today’s announcement of Homma’s appointment to the command is strange in view of the fact of his appointment to this command at the outbreak of war.
