Struck by Australian Air Force BIG AND SUCCESSFUL RAID ON RABAUL LONDON, April 9. A message from Sydney states that the Royal Australian Air Force carried out a big and successful raid on Rabaul this afternoon. Full details are not yet available. Many enemy aircraft were destroyed on the ground. Heavy bombs caused damage among ships in the harbour. AIR VICTORIES IN BURMA A communique from Chungking states that the American Volunteer Group engaged 20 Japanese bombers over Burma. Ten Japanese planes were shot down and two others were damaged. All the American planes returned safely. In Burma no important development is reported on the Irrawaddy and Sittang Valley fronts. There are indications that the Japanese are preparing new attacks.
