SALE AT ADDINGTON INCREASE IN FAT SHEEP PRICES. FAT PIG VALUES FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. Addington market entries were generally smaller today and prices for fat stock taken all round, showed some appreciation. Store lambs: Competition was keen for mixed-sex and wether lambs, ewes being in small numbers. Best forward lambs made to 21s 7d best rape lambs to 19s 9d, medium to good 16s 6d to 18s, and others from 11s to 16s. Store sheep: The sale differed little from last Tuesday and inquiry was well sustained throughout. Romney cross brought from 38s 6d to 395. halfbred from 26s to 30s, and pro-per-conditioned two-tooths from 15s 9d to 20s. Fat sheep: A rise of l-8d in the schedule for export ewes had a small effect on prices, but values for better-class young ewes were up by about one shilling a head. Medium sorts were on a par with last Tuesday. For export ewes there was a rise of about 6d a head, exporters paying up to 15s 6d. Fat cattle: A small entry of best quality sorts made for keener competition. Top price for best quality steers was £l9 17s 6d. There were better prices all round except for aged cows. Prime quality medium-weight steers made from £l4 to £l5 15s, ordinary £ll 15s to £l3, light to £ll ss, prime heifers £ll to £l2 ss, medium £7 10s to £9 15s, prime cows £8 to £lO 15s, medium £5 10s to £7, light and aged cows £3 10s to £5. Fat pigs: The porker entry was a shade larger than for several weeks. However, competition was keen and prices remained firm till the end, when there was an easing of 3s to 4s a head. Values were: Choppers £2 8s 6d to £4 16s, porkers 48s 6d to £3 8s 6d (average price per lb, 7d to 9d). Baconers £3 2s 6d to £4 9s 6d (average price per lb, 6'/ 2 d to 7>/ 2 d).
MASTERTON SALE
KEEN COMPETITION. WETHERS IN DEMAND. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows cn their weekly sale at Masterton yesterday: A good yarding of sheep met with a keen sale from a fair attendance of the public. The lambs yarded were not of as good quality as those at last week’s sale, but prices were well up in comparison. Wethers were in keen demand, one line of 2ths making 23s 3d. Fat sheep showed an increase in values and were keenly sought after. A total clearance was effected under the hammer, and the following list will indicate values: —Prime fat wethers 245, 24s 6d, 24s lOd to 25s 2d, light fat wethers 23s 2d, fat lambs £l, 21s, 23s 3d, fat Down ewes 15s to 15s 6d, good prime heavy ewes, 14s to 14s 7d to 15s Bd. light sorts Ils, 12s to 13s 6d, good b.f. lambs 16s Bd, 17s 2d, 17s 4d to 17s Bd, small do 12s, 13s to 13s 9d, good shorn w.f.w. lambs 16s 8d to 18s 6d. medium do 14s, 14s 9d to 15s 3d, small do, 12s 6d, woolly wether lambs 14s, 14s 6d to 14s 9d, small woolly lambs 10s to 12s 6d, good ewe lambs 21s 7d, medium do 16s Bd, 'm.a. ewes 12s 6d, 13s 9d to 14s, 2th ewes (carry-over) 18s 4d. 19s lOd, 2th wethers 23s 2d. Jersey cow in milk £7, P.A. cow £4 10s, fat Jersey cows £6 Is.
