ROTARY CLUB
EXPERIENCES TN SINGAPORE AND EAST INDIES. Exneriences in Malaya. Singapore and the Netherlands East. Indies were related to members of the Masterton Rotary Club at. today’s luncheon by Pilot Officer J. Coom, a. son of Mr and Mrs H. F. Coom, of Masterton. The president, Mr Norman Lee. occunied the chair. Messrs H. F. Coom and A. D. Low wore visitors at the luncheon. Pilot Officer Coom, who arrived in Sineanore after Japan entered the war, said he was posted to the Royal Australian Air Force as an intelligence officer, as there were no planes available. He carried out those duties until he reached Java, which he left a week before the Janariese invasion started. He had left Singapore bv plane some days before that, nlace fell to the Japanese. All his belongings were lost at Palombang. in Sumatra. On the motion of Mr J. H. Cunningham Pilot Officer Coom was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for. his interest-’ ing survey of events in the East.
