NAVAL RESERVISTS
NEW ZEALANDERS GRANTED COMMISSIONS. (Special P.A. Correspondent.) LONDON, April 7. The following personnel of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve have been temporarily commissioned as sub-lieuten-ants:—E. F. Penty, Wairoa; H. A. Nation, Waipawa; W. O. Mappiebeck, Christchurch, D. N. McCallum and G. M. Board, Dunedin, A. G. Grhnnon, G. T. McCarthy and W. J. D. Minogue, Auckland; H. M. Buchanan, Mataura; R. L. Sowden, Oamaru; F. S. Phi - lips, Gisborne; G. Anderson, Invercaiglll, and also M. R. Carter. The following have been temporarily commissioned as sub-lieutenants (A) Fleet Air Arm:—B. W. Nichols, W. D. Squire, R. V. Bellbooth. G. W. J. Blacker, W. G. Coleman, G. D. Cook. R. A. Cranwell, D. Dorixac, A. N. Eton, M. C. Farrer, J. A. Gledhill, J. G Hale, R. A. Hirschorn. R. Hooker, S. T. Jenkins, L. H. Johnson, J. W. Johnston. N. Laurence, D. D. Lightbourne, R. Mander, J. S. Mclvor. R. McMillan, C. G. Patrick, K. D. B. Petrie, M. H. J. Petrie, A. T. Raines, R. H. Saunders, R. M. Shaw, J. E. D. Stringleman, J. D. Chittenden, and E. S. Erikson. Lieutenant C. G. Palmer, R.N.Z.N.V.R., formerly of Auckland, was recently promoted to Lieutenant-Commander making a total of 17 New Zealand licutcnant-Commandcrs. New Zealand thus has a higher percentage of lieutenant-commanders now serving in the R.N.V.R. than any other country of the overseas Empire. Lieutenant-Commander B. T. Giles, Wellington, is one of the outstanding members of the R.N.Z.N.V.R. He was promoted after only two years as lieutenant, instead of the normal four years, being thus honoured because he carried out special service.
