CHARGES AGAINST JAPANESE IN NEW BRITAIN MURDER OF AUSTRALIAN WOUNDED. SOME BURNED ALIVE IN HUT. (By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 7. The New Guinea correspondent of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, in a cable to the says that of a party of about ’ 60 Australian officers and men taken prisoner in New Britain . many were bayoneted after their hands had been tied behind their backs, and that wounded men were burned alive in a hut. The Australian Army Minister, Mr Forde, has asked officers who have returned from New Britain for a report. In the meantime he has reserved comment. It was also officially announced that the air raid on Port Moresby on April 6 failed completely. The Japanese planes making the attack were intercepted by fighters and driven off. Several were damaged by machine-gun fire. One of the local machines was shot down and one is missing, but the pilot of one is safe.
