Farmer Fatally Injured. Fatal injuries wore received by Anthony Wisnewski, retired farmer, New Plymouth, when he was struck by a car. He died shortly after admission to hospital. Enrolment in Home Guard. To fulfil requirements by the Army authorities, it is expected that within the next week » Ministerial order will be made in terms of amendment No. 9 to the National Service Emergency Regulations, calling on certain classes of personnel to apply for enrolment in the Home Guard. Pope’s Jubilee. , Arrangements have been made at the Vatican, Rome, for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness the Pope. These celebrations, which will extend from May, 1942, till May, 1943, are to be strictly limited to spiritual homage to the Vicar of Christ, as a tangible demonstration to the whole world of the profound devotion of the Catholic world to the Holy See. The principal event of this observance will be the Jubilee Mass to be celebrated at St Peter’s, Rome, probably on May 12, the date of the anniversary, though at a recent meeting of the central committee it was mentioned that it may be postponed till May 14, the Day of Ascension. The event will be recognised throughout the Catholic world.
Facilities for Study. To provide facilities for study in military camps throughout New Zealand, the executive of the Canterbury University College Students’ Association lias put forward the following plan: (1) That there should be a suitable place in the camp for men to study in the evenings. (This is already the case in some camps); (2) that these students be supplied with typed notes, and if possible, be given lectures, and that some arrangement 1 bo made about library books for (hem; (3) that the extra-mural system of boundaries be reviewed (so that Otago University students al present in camps in the Canterbury district need not belong to Canterbury University College); (4) that if there is the possibility of sitting examinations, the closing date for entries be delayed till October and that 14 days’ leave be granted before the examinations.
