SHIPYARD DISPUTE

DAY LOST IN CANADA. TROUBLE OVER NEW WAGE SCALE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) QUEBEC, April 6. Shipbuilding yards remained closed today, with 3000 men idle, while company officials, union heads, and Dominion labour conciliators strove to clear up a misunderstanding created by the enforcement of the new wage scale. Employees complained that while some workers received increases of 18 to 21 cents hourly, others had their wages decreased by seven cents hourly, and pay of ordinary labourers was decreased from 44 to 42 cents hourly. Employees said they had received a telegram from the Department of Lamour intimating that the new wage scale was not supposed to contain reductions. . _ .. _j
