RAID ON NARVIK
BY BRITISH COMMANDOS SWEDISH NEWSPAPER’S REPORT. CO-OPERATION OF RUSSIAN BOMBERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, April 6. The Stockholm correspondent of the “New York Times” says that British commandos early yesterday raided Narvik ,the northern Norwegian port, inflicting many casualties and causing considerable damage to shipping, according to the Swedish newspaper “Afton Tidningen.” Details are lacking, but one source said that the raid may have been carried out in conjunction with Russian Air Force bombers, which had been particularly active over the northern front in the past 24 hours. Moscow reported that Russian bombers were over Narvik during Saturday night.
EXPLOSIONS HEARD AND BRITISH PLANES SEEN. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 6. A Stockholm message states that British commandos are reported to have landed southward of Narvik on Sunday. British planes were seen from the Swedish frontier and explosions were heard in the direction of Narvik and farther south. The Germans are said to have been collecting large stores in the Narvik area, in preparation for the spring offensive in North Russia.
