FARMERS’ UNION

WOMENS’ DIVISION. MASTERTON BRANCH MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Farmers’ Union Mrs C. C. Jackson presided over an excellent attendance of members. In her report she stated that the activities of the branch were much the same as last year, mainly helping the Red Cross and Patriotic efforts. The work of spinning and knitting woollen comforts for the Mercantile Marine was undertaken. Mesdames E. J. Wright and J. Gray had taken charge of this work and 104 articles had been packed and sent away. The housekeeping work had been a special feature during the past year. The balance sheet, which was of a satisfactory nature, was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs C. C. Jackson; treasurer, Mrs C. H. McKenzie; secretary, Miss E. Bennett; committee, | Mesdames J. Gray, C. Jarrett, C. Percy, l Bideford, J. Reid, Te Wharau, F. J. Pike; advisory members, Mrs A. Ross, Miss E. Bennett; delegates to Countrywomen's Red Cross sub-centre, Mesdames McLean and W. Taylor; delegate to Patriotic Committee, Mrs Milne; delegate to Masterton Entertainment Committee, Mrs W. Kemble Welch. The meeting concluded with an appeal from the president to support the Patriotic Shop which was being held in Masterton to raise its quota towards the patriotic fund, to donate cakes to the Y.M.C.A. and gifts to the A.N.A. Club in Wellington Afternoon tea was served. Posies of roses were presented to Mrs Jackson, Mrs C. H. McKenzie and to the guests of the afternoon, Mrs E. J. Wright and Miss M. Wright. Miss Wright, who is shortly to be married, was presented by members with many useful gifts. Mrs W. James presented certificates to those who had passed examinations in V.A.D. work.
