SOLDIER SENTENCED
ONE MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT. REFUSAL TO UNDERGO REMEDIAL OPERATION. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first case of its kind in Wellington was heard in the Magistrate s Court today when a soldier, Morris Sydney Norman Isaacs, was charged with refusing to undergo a remedial operation. . , Police evidence was given that Isaacs was given sick leave and examined by a civilian medical board, which decided that he should have an operation. Accused refused surgical treatment. He stated in evidence that his sister had been ruined for life in an operation at Wellington Hospital and given a year to live. The Magistrate (Mr A. M. Goulding) asked the accused whether he was now willing to undergo the operation and accused said he was not. A sentence of a month’s imprisonment was imposed, the Magistrate saying he must impose a penalty in accordance with the regulations.
