ARMY COMMANDS
ANNOUNCED BY FEDERAL MINISTER GENERAL BENNETT PROMOTED. SENIOR STAFF OFFICER GOING TO WASHINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE. This Day. The reorganisation of Army commands under General Sir Thomas Blarney was announced by the Army Minister (Mr Forde) yesterday. Two new commanders have been appointed —Lieutenant-General Sir John Laver-
ack, who recently returned from the Middle East, where he commanded the A.I.F. in Syria, and Lieutenant-Gene-ral Sir I ven Mac Kay, who since his return from the Middle East a year ago, has been in command of the home forces. Major-Generals S. F. Rowell and Gordon Bennett have been promoted, to be Lieutenant-Generals and will be given active commands. General Rowell served in the Middle East and General Bennett was G.O.C. of the A.I.F. in Malaya until the fall of Singapore. Lieutenant-General V. A. H. Sturdee will be chief of the General Staff under General Blarney. The name of a senior staff officer to go to Washington is to be announced in a few days.
