The reorganisation of Army commands under General Sir Thomas Blarney was announced by the Army Minister (Mr Forde) yesterday. Two new commanders have been appointed —Lieutenant-General Sir John Laver-

ack, who recently returned from the Middle East, where he commanded the A.I.F. in Syria, and Lieutenant-Gene-ral Sir I ven Mac Kay, who since his return from the Middle East a year ago, has been in command of the home forces. Major-Generals S. F. Rowell and Gordon Bennett have been promoted, to be Lieutenant-Generals and will be given active commands. General Rowell served in the Middle East and General Bennett was G.O.C. of the A.I.F. in Malaya until the fall of Singapore. Lieutenant-General V. A. H. Sturdee will be chief of the General Staff under General Blarney. The name of a senior staff officer to go to Washington is to be announced in a few days.
