HEROES COME HOME
WOUNDED FROM ST. NAZAIRE ARRIVAL AT BRITISH PORT. MET BY RED CROSS NURSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright I (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, March ' 29. Fart of St. Nazaire force has arrived at a British port. A naval sloop, with the White Ensign flying at half-mast, drew quietly alongside a quay and was met by ambulances manned by Red Cross nurses. Naval ratings carried off stretchers bearing the wounded, many of whom, though seriously injured, were cheerful and pleased with their work. The ship's arrival coincided with a procession of Service men and civil defence workers, marching to the town sauare to participate in a National Day of Prayer ceremony. BRITISH COMMANDERS NAVAL FORCES AND SPECIAL SERVICE TROOPS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.12 p.m.) RUGBY, March 29. The naval forces engaged in the St Nazaire raid were under the command of Commander R. E. D. Ryder. The special service troops were led by Lieutenant-Colonel A. C. Newman, of the Essex Regiment.
